Back in March, during the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, TX, the American Poster Institute presented the Flatstock 16 Poster Convention. The show featured original graphic art by more than 80 of the most popular poster artists working today. Around the same time, I had posted about a rock poster and its art history influences so I think it is fitting to give Flatstock some coverage. Below are a few of my favorites from the show.

For those that live in the Chicago area and would like to check out some posters first-hand, Flatstock 17 will be held at the Pitchfork Music Festival this summer in Union Park.

Beautiful posters Peter. I have a soft place in my heart when it comes to poster design. Before I switched to web, posters were pretty much the majority of what I did. That, and banners, flyers, etc created from the poster designs.

I really enjoy these posters. They’re bright, eye-catching and edgy. Instead of being blind to your surroundings, they draw you in and make you take a closer look. Well done. You can go to http://www.24-7designheaven.com for more ideas and information.

The poster is certainly one of my favorite canvases, Cat. The challenge of grabbing someone’s attention and conveying a message in a matter of seconds using only one side of a piece of paper is what I really enjoy. I wish I currently could do more poster designs.
